Smart switches and dimmers

Most popular smart home upgrade. We replace existing wall switches with smart-enabled versions that you can control from an app, voice assistant, or scene control button.

Common installs:

  • Smart light switch (3-way, no neutral required, retrofit)
  • Smart dimmer (with neutral wire) – app-dim brightness, set scenes
  • Scene controller buttons (4-button wall control for movie/dinner/bedtime scenes)
  • Smart fan/light combo controllers

We use brands that work with Google Home, Alexa, and Apple HomeKit out-of-the-box – typically Clipsal Iconic Wiser, Mercator Ikuü, Aeotec, Lutron Caséta, or HPM Sensa Range.

Smart lighting

Beyond smart switches, full smart lighting can include:

  • LED strip lighting under cabinets and stairs (app-controlled colour temperature)
  • Coloured RGB lighting in entertainment rooms
  • Outdoor smart flood lighting (PIR + app + schedule)
  • Smart bulbs in pendants (no wiring change, just bulb replacement)
  • Mood lighting circuits with multiple scene controllers

Smart aircon control

Smart aircon control connects your split system or ducted air conditioning to your phone, voice assistant, or home automation hub. Options:

  • Sensibo / Tado smart IR controllers – works with any existing aircon (no wiring change)
  • Daikin Onecta – native app for Daikin split systems
  • Mitsubishi MELCloud – native app for Mitsubishi Electric
  • AirTouch zoning controllers – full smart zone control for ducted aircon

Pricing: from $185 supplied and installed for a smart IR controller; from $1,450 supplied and installed for full ducted zone replacement with smart controller.

Smart doorbells and security

We install:

  • Ring Pro 2, Eufy Doorbell, Nest Doorbell – wired smart doorbells with video
  • Dedicated transformer for doorbell wiring where the existing 8V chime is undersized
  • PIR-activated cameras around perimeter
  • Smart locks (works with HomeKit, Alexa, Google)

Pricing: from $245 supplied and installed for a wired smart doorbell with transformer.

Smart blinds and curtains

For newer builds we install motorised blinds with smart-home integration:

  • Somfy Wirefree (Lithium battery, RF + Wi-Fi bridge)
  • Lutron Serena
  • IKEA Fyrtur

Pricing varies with blind width and brand. We do the electrical pre-wiring during framing for new builds, or retrofit-friendly wireless solutions for existing homes.

When you are renovating – pre-wire for smart home

If you are renovating or building, talk to us BEFORE plaster goes up. The pre-wire stage is the cheap time to add:

  • Neutral wires at every switch box (smart switches usually need a neutral)
  • Cat 6 to every TV and ceiling cavity (for streaming and access points)
  • Cat 6 to entry door (for doorbell power and video)
  • Conduit pre-runs to outdoor lighting locations
  • 12V transformer locations for under-cabinet LED runs
  • Wi-Fi access point ceiling mounts in strategic locations

Pre-wiring during build adds maybe $1,200-$2,500 to a typical 3-bedroom build. Retrofit later costs 3-5x that.
