What a residential electrician actually does in your home

A residential electrician handles every safe, compliant electrical task in your home. That includes installing power points and lights, upgrading switchboards, wiring new circuits for an oven or aircon, installing safety switches, replacing smoke alarms to the new interconnected standard, fault-finding when a circuit trips, and emergency callouts when something has gone wrong overnight.

What it should not include is “let me get a mate to come do the aircon bit”. Anything refrigerant-related is supposed to be done by a tradesperson with both an electrical licence AND an ARCtick licence. Most “electrician + aircon” companies in Brisbane sub the aircon out. Common residential electrical jobs we handle every week

Some weeks we do twenty of one thing and none of another. Across an average month though, this is what the call sheet looks like:

• Power point installation – single, double, USB, outdoor weatherproof, kitchen splash-back. About 30 of these a week.
• Lighting upgrades – switching halogen and incandescent to LED downlights, adding feature lighting, fixing dim or flickering fixtures. Energy bill drops noticeably after this one.
