Standard EV charger installation scope

A typical home EV charger install includes:

  1. Site assessment – garage wall location, distance from switchboard, single/three phase availability, switchboard headroom.
  2. Charger recommendation – based on your EV (Tesla, Model 3/Y, Mustang Mach-E, Polestar, BYD, Ioniq, etc.) and your home’s electrical capacity.
  3. Quote – fixed price, no callout fee.
  4. Energex load assessment – we lodge directly with Energex.
  5. Switchboard work – new dedicated MCB or RCBO; switchboard upgrade if existing capacity is insufficient.
  6. Cable run – typically 2.5mm or 6mm depending on charger amps and run length.
  7. Charger mount, wiring, commissioning.
  8. Setup of the app (Tesla app, ChargePoint app, Wallbox app, etc).
  9. Certificate of compliance.

Typical install time: 3-5 hours single-phase; 5-7 hours three-phase. Most installs done within 1-2 weeks of quote acceptance.

Single phase vs three phase EV charger – what to pick

Single phase (32 A, up to 7.4 kW) – standard for most Australian homes.

  • Cost: cheaper hardware ($800-$2,000 charger), cheaper install
  • Charge speed: full battery in 8-12 hours
  • Suits most Brisbane homes with one EV charged overnight

Three phase (32 A x3, up to 22 kW) – for newer homes with three-phase supply, or homes upgrading mains.

  • Cost: pricier hardware ($1,800-$3,500), pricier install
  • Charge speed: full battery in 3-5 hours
  • Suits homes with two EVs, larger battery EVs (Tesla Model X, F-150 Lightning), or business use

We are authorised Tesla Wall Connector installers. The Wall Connector is the cleanest install for Tesla owners – app-controlled, supports Wi-Fi for over-the-air updates, charges at 11.5 kW single-phase or 22 kW three-phase, supports auto-start when you pull into the garage.
